The DVLA set out the regulations surrounding displaying personalised number plates. All vehicles manufactured after 1.1.1973 must display number plates of reflex-reflecting material, white at the front and yellow at the rear. Motorcycles and tricycles registered after 1.9.2001 must only display number plates at the rear of the vehicle. Motorcycles and tricycles registered before 1.9.2001 can display a number plate at the front but are not required to by law.

Cape Plates follows the British Standard which sets out the physical characteristics of acrylic registration plates. This includes visibility, strength and reflectivity and states the name or trade mark of the supplier must also be displayed. By altering the spacing, fonts or letters on your number plate, you can be liable for a fine and the vehicle can fail the MOT.
