The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) are responsible for the administration of car registrations in the UK. Over the years they have introduced several different formats of DVLA number plates to cope with the ever increasing number of cars on the road. These formats include suffix, prefix and current style DVLA registrations, all of which are available here at Cape Plates.

Suffix registration plates were issued between 1963 and 1983 and follow the format of three letters, up to three numbers and then an age identifier letter starting with the letter A. (E.g. ABC 123A). Prefix car registrations replaced the suffix series and reversed the format by putting an age identifying letter at the beginning of the registration plate. This was followed by up to three numbers and then three letters (E.g. A123 ABC). The current style of DVLA registration plates were released in 2001. These DVLA registrations follow the format of two letters, two numbers and then three letters. The two numbers give a snap shot of the age the vehicle was first registered.

Cape Plates can assign a DVLA number plate directly to your vehicle or supply the car registration on a certificate of entitlement. Certificates are valid for 12 months and can be renewed annually for £25. This certificate facility enables people to buy their perfect registration plate as soon as they see it - even if they do not have a vehicle to assign it to!
